"Isabella" 5:00pm I walked into Arby's dreading that I had to be there until 11:00pm. As I clocked in, I prayed that we wouldn't be busy. I was told that I'd be working in the drive-through that night, and this excited me because I wouldn't have to put on a fake smile for every order I took. 5:45pm We were dead. I hadn't had a customer so far. This gave me time to recover from the night before. Just as I started to make myself a drink, I heard a "ding" in my ear. This was my first customer of the night. "Can I take your order?" I asked, but I got no answer. I waited a few more seconds, then asked again, "Can I take your order?" but still no answer. I looked out the window, curious as to why they wouldn't answer, but I saw no car. I changed my headset, thinking there must have been something wrong with the one I was wearing. 8:15pm I had had a few more customers, but not many. I stared out the window in a daze, thinking about what I might do the next day when I suddenly saw something move out of the corner of my eye. It startled me, and I turned to see what it was. No one was in the dining room, and none of my coworkers were anywhere to be found. I just assumed that I was seeing things. 9:00pm It had been entirely too quiet that evening. Bored, I walked into the dining room to clean the already spotless tables. I was halfway finished when all of a sudden there was a crackling in my headset. I could have sworn I heard someone whisper something amongst all of the crackling. The noise in the headset grew louder with every second. I jerked the headset off as quickly as I could; unaware of what was going on around me. I heard a scratching noise on the windows. Ever hesitant, I turned to see what it was. The windows were becoming fogy, and it became very cold inside. I saw things moving all around me, and this frightened me. I ran as fast as I could to the back of the restaurant. I stumbled to the back door and tried to open it, but it was locked. I heard footsteps coming from all around me, and I panicked. I ran to the freezer and closed the door behind me, hoping that I would be safe in there. 11:00pm I was freezing, and I couldn't feel my hands. I had been in the freezer for two hours, but was too afraid to step out. I'd rather freeze to death than face whatever was out there. I slowly stepped up to the freezer door; my legs beginning to buckle underneath me. I tried to listen for whatever had been out there, but I heard nothing. This gave me the courage to step out. I put my hand on the freezer door; unable to feel how cold it actually was. I slowly tried to push it open, but it wouldn't budge. I pushed harder, and still nothing. With all the strength that I had left, I shoved the door, but still nothing. I stumbled back away from the door with my eyes wide open. I was trapped. I stuck my shaky hand in my pocket and pulled out my cell phone. Why didn't I think of that before? It took me almost five tries to dial 911 because of my shaky fingers, but I managed to finally get the numbers right. 12:45am I was still trapped. The police were nowhere to be found, and my body was beginning to shut down. I looked at my cell phone to see the time, and I saw that I had twenty-seven missed calls. They were all from my mom. How could I not have heard the phone ring? I called her back when I finally regained enough strength. The ringing of the phone seemed to last a lifetime, when someone finally answered. "Hello? Allison? Is this you? Can you hear me?" she asked, "It's m-me…Wh-where are y-you?" "I'm at Arby's with the police. We've checked all over for you. Where are you?" "I'm in the f-freezer," I said, "I can't get out. I'm st-stuck." "Allison," she said, "What?" I hesitantly replied, "The police were in the freezer…no one was there…" I froze in my spot. I felt the phone sliding from my hand then crash into the floor. I began to hyperventilate as I paced back and forth. "Help!" I screamed, as I began to pound on the freezer door, "Somebody get me out! Help!" The room started to spin. I felt myself loosing balance, and I fell to the ground. I hit my head on a shelf, and the room started to go black. As I began to lose consciousness, I saw a figure standing in the corner. It was a beautiful little girl with long black hair holding a raggedy teddy bear. She began to move toward me. As I faded off, I heard a voice whisper in my ear, "Isabella…" it said. That was the last thing I ever heard.

"Eternal Night"
I could feel the loss of my blood as it was slowly seeping from my veins. Not once did I think I would die this young or in the way that I did. I had always thought that these things were just in the movies, until now. Slowly, I could feel my life passing me by. All that I've worked for, all that I've dreamed about is lost. Nic O'Loughlin was my first love, but he took everything I loved away from me. Because of him, I've been forced to live a life of eternal night. Still, I can't shake these feelings I have for him. He killed me, turned me into this thing, and he killed my mother, the only family I had left. I miss her so much. Why couldn't he have just taken me instead, or at least let me die with her? Because of him, I have no one. I'm forced to wander around eating whatever I can find. I can't bear myself to take a human life, not since that day. When Nic turned me, I didn't know what to do. I had a thirst for blood. I knew it was wrong but I wanted it more than anything. That monster, he told me he did it so we could be together forever. When I woke, I panicked. I had to get out. I fled from where he had held me captive, but the noise outside was unbearable. All my senses were heightened to a level beyond human capacity. I ran down an ally naked and cold. I noticed that someone was following me and I hid. I could hear the squeaking of his shoes and smell the sent of his cheap cologne. He was getting closer, and I heard him pull out a knife. I still don't forgive myself for what I did. I tell myself all the time that he deserved it, that he was a bad man, but he still didn't deserve what I did to him. At this point, I was starving. I wanted to sink my teeth into him and drain him of every ounce of life he had. Never had I felt an urge that powerful before. He stepped closer. I'll never forget how he tasted. The warmth of his blood running down my throat was unlike anything I had ever felt before. My teeth tingled from the sensation, and my eyes turned black as coal. I felt powerful, like I could take on anything. How could something this horrible feel so good? That was my first taste of human blood, and it's a taste I'll never forget and a urning I'll always keep with me. I had to run away. Nic had robbed me of everything. I was naked and alone with nowhere to go. I saw a lanky blond woman walking past the ally. She looked like she was about my size. She was my second, and went down just as fast as the man in the ally. Someone, an old gray haired man, saw me kill her and quickly called 911. I panicked, and ran down the street faster than humanly possible. To the human eye, I was just a blur. By becoming a vampire, not only were my senses heightened, but I gained great strength and speed. I felt like the most powerful person in the world, like I could do anything. I stopped, thinking I was safe, but then I saw him. Nic had found me. "It feels good, doesn't it?" he said with a smirk. "You monster, you destroyed my life! You killed my mother and you killed me! You said you loved me!" "But I do, Violet," he said, "more than anything. That's why I did this to you. I wanted us to be together forever. I wanted you to be happy." "You murdered my mother and you turned me into a monster! I killed two people back there. What part of that makes you think I'm happy?" "To take a human life is nothing," he said, "They would have died eventually anyway. You did them a favor." "How is taking someones life doing them a favor?" I asked, wishing I could take his. "That man was a murderer and a rapist. Do you realize how many lives you've saved by killing him? You have to come with me. I'll keep you safe." "It's not right," I said, "I can't." I started to run as fast as I could, trying to lose him. "You can't fight it Violet!" he yelled, "It's too strong!"

"Uninvited" I was sitting in my room on a Tuesday night wrapping Christmas presents while watching reruns of Dharma and Greg when my cell phone rang. It was sitting on my book shelf charging, so I had to get up to get it. I stumbled to it because my room was such a mess with piles of ripped wrapping paper in the floor that I had neglected to get rid of. I picked my phone up off of the shelf, but as I detached it from its charger, I dropped it in the floor. The song that my phone played when I had a call was almost over, but I answered it just in time. "Hello?" I said as I had it to my ear, "Hey," my mother said, "I'm on my way home, but I'm going to grab something to eat. Do you want anything?" "No thanks," I replied, "I've already had some of the leftover soup you made." "Are you sure?" she asked, I thought about it again, "Yeah, I'm sure." She began to say something else, but I didn't get a chance to hear it. She must have been out of range because the call was lost. I plugged my phone back up to allow it to charge some more and began wrapping more Christmas presents. I decided to turn off the TV and put on some music to listen to while wrapping. Putting in one of my favorite CD's, I turned the volume up as high as it would go. As I sang my way through half of the CD, the power went out. I had to feel my way to the kitchen for a flashlight. Having tripped over everything from my bedroom to the kitchen, I finally found a flashlight hiding in one of the cabinets. I turned it on and made my way outside to see what was wrong with the power. I didn't bother to get my coat because it was too dark for me to find it. That was a rather stupid idea, though, because it had snowed two feet the night before. As I walked around to the back of the house, I had the feeling that I wasn't the only one there. I stopped and looked all around me and then continued on. As I listened to the snow crunch under my feet, I heard the same sound of footsteps just a few seconds after my own. My heart began to beat tremendously fast as I lingered around the far side of the porch. I became too afraid to go any further and ran back inside of the house as if someone were chasing me. Quickly shutting the door behind me, I feared that I wasn't alone out there. I felt my way to the couch and sat down. I was shaking all over, and my face started to go numb. Slowing my breathing down, I finally regained composure. Closing my eyes, I began to hear more sounds coming from the back of the house. I hit my toe over the coffee table as I jumped up causing a drink that was left on the table to fall over; however, cleaning the drink up was the furthest thing from my mind at that moment. I gasped as my cell phone began to ring again. My eyes had already adjusted to the darkness, so finding my phone wasn't a difficult task. My mother's name flashed on the caller ID, and this relieved me. "Hey," I said, "you scared me. Where are you?" I heard no response to my question, "Hello?" I said again, "Are you there?" but still no answer. A muffled noise, a combination of heavy breathing and moving around, then came from my phone. "Are you there?" I asked once more before the phone call was lost. I closed my phone and put it in my pocket, then made my way to my bed to lie down. As I closed my eyes, I listened to everything around me. I could hear my cat scratching in his litter box, my dog snore the way he always does when he's sound asleep, then suddenly I heard a thump coming from my parent's bedroom. The dog jumped up and started growling softly. I froze in my spot, afraid to move. I heard more noises and then talking coming from their bedroom. As I listened, I heard my bedroom door open and footsteps coming toward me. As my eyes opened slightly, I saw a tall, thin man standing almost three feet from me wearing all black and holding a metal baseball bat. My heart began racing, and I jumped up from my bed. The tall man swung his bat at me as I ran past him, just missing my head. I heard him curse under his breath as I ran for the front door. Blasting through the door, I ran through our yard, then onto the street. I ran as fast as I could, passing house after house when I saw headlights moving toward me. I stopped and began waving my arms in hopes that whoever was driving could see me and would stop and help me, but they just passed me by. There was a house in the distance with the lights on, and I ran franticly to the door and began pounding on it, hoping that someone was awake and would let me in. I pounded, and pounded, and pounded, until my hands began to bleed, but no one would answer the door. A car right behind me slammed on its brakes, and the driver got out and ran toward me. I focused my eyes on the figure running at me and saw that it was the tall man from before, so a ran off the side of the porch and into a tool shed. It was hard to find my way through there because it was cluttered with tools and yard equipment. The tall man blasted through the door and began swinging the baseball bat around, knocking over everything in his way. My eyes wandered all around looking for something to defend myself with. I plundered through a pile of wood, getting splinters all in my fingers, hands, and arms, when I found an old, rusty hoe. I swung it around just as the tall man began to swing his bat at me, and I hit him in the head, knocking him to the ground. As he tried to get up, I thrust the hoe into him over and over multiple times until I was sure he wasn't getting up. I stepped over the tall man's body; my heard still racing. As I made my way out of the tool shed, I was still shaking all over, but I was relieved that the nightmare was over. As I reached into my pocket to get my cell phone, I felt a sharp pain in my back. It increased exponentially with every breath I took. My vision became blurry, and I started to stumble. I reached around to feel the spot on my back where the pain was coming from and winced as I touched it. I held my hand up to my eyes and saw a stream of blood running down my arm. I slowly turned around, and as I lifted my eyes off of my arm, I saw the tall man standing near me holding a screwdriver dripping with blood. As my eyes began to shut, he took the baseball bat and swung it at my head. I didn't feel any pain though. All I could feel was the urge to sleep. As I drifted off, all I could think about was sitting in my room wrapping Christmas presents while eating my mother's soup.
